Fudeco and the objectives

Preserve and keep our historic heritage and its social good use as cultural and economical resources as well as the recover of the cutlery industry patrimony.


Spread and make possible the enjoyment of the museum collection of the cutlery industry of Albacete.

Promote the donation and deposit of pieces and collection that by now are in particular hands.

Promote and support activities and initiative that resounds the benefit of the natural patrimony in Albacete.

Let the people know what a cutlery profession means, spreading and promoting in the new generations activities in group with the school of cutters Amos Nuñez.

Promote contacts and foment the collaboration with other entities, national and international organisations with similar goals.

Contribute for research in the cutlery sector between university students and investigators as well as promoting this patrimony among the students with visits, short courses and conferences.
Built a visitor’s place with tourist porpoises in Albacete this will be considered an encounter point among the past, the present and the future of the cutlery industry in the province of Albacete.

Represent our signs of identity counting on the dynamic roll that the cultural patrimony of the local population represents.

Preserve, spread and develop that patrimony which the cutlery industry represent for our city and our province, at the same time we wish to contribute to its spreading as a province and regional cultural treasure.

A studying group of architecture in Sevilla conformed by Miguel Hernandez Valencia, Esther Lopèz Martìn, Julianne Potter, and Francisco Josè Dominguèz Saborida will be encharged of the development of the final project that will transform “La Casa de Hortelano (the house of Hortelano) the local police department and la Plaza de la Catedral where the museum of cutlery industry is located.

This is an agreement the jury of idea contest approved it was called by the Ayuntamiento to select the best offers to give green light to this museum project, it will be the fourth project with this characteristics in the world, after the ones that already exist in France, Germany and Japan . The prized project was represented with the slogan Caracol, and according to the jury it fits with simplicity.

La casa del Hortelano which is going to be built in an area of 1,560 square meters will cost 1’800,000 Eu (300 million of pesetas).

The Distribution

The museum and the surrounding buildings will count with temporary and permanent exposition rooms, cutlery workshops, cafes, audio-visual rooms, stores, restrooms, administrative departments, a file centre and a lobby.

According to the mayor explanations, in 2 months the winner of the contest will have to present a basic project , this document this document will be used to begin the execution of plans.

The first stage will be the rehabilitation of La Casa del Hortelano, it was also mentioned an inauguration of the area in 2003 Easter Time. The foundation president (Fudecu9 Roberto Arcos, qualified this project as exceptional and very professional.

By now the museum already counts with 800 cutting pieces for the exposition and they are also negotiating another 250 collection pieces. These pieces are considered to have a great value (some of them date in form the first century).
